Map design Print preparation
The official vegetation map of Marjan previously featured only three categories: forest, maquis, and dry grasslands. However, recent research of Marjan’s much richer biodiversity set ground for a new map to be designed which provides data on a much more detailed classification, akin to a treasure list. Newly established phyto-sociological classification includes 13 vegetation groups with additional specific categories, including invasive plants, each represented by its own color. This enhanced map is designed for everyone to understand the variety and abundance of vegetation on Marjan. Previously, only 15 protected plant species were known on Marjan, but the new research has identified as many as 70 protected species. Project and research was led by landscape architect Igor Belamarić.
